i like you, you like me

I woke up today and thought..where IS my that dog. record?

Ugh, the perils of having moved about 12 times since high school. I mean, where the fuck is ANYTHING, really ??? (Haven't seen a yearbook in about 10 years, I have a feeling you would all get a good giggle outta that piece of nostalgic embarrassment...must find!)

THE 90S HAD SUCH A SICK EYEBROW GAME

Anyway.
Here is a song I really really liked when I was 16, I think you'll dig it too (my other favorite was 'Old Timer').

"We do whatever is really cool."

clean cup, move down

Last weekend Hunter & I eschewed 3D movie theatre surreality to stick with our favorite reality: Laptop movie marathons in bed. In my wine haze I agreed to a subtitled, taxidermied 80s adaptation of Alice in Wonderland called Něco z Alenky.

It was great looking but creepy as hell.

Except for Alice (and actually, sometimes Alice) everything was toys. Stuffed rabbits, marionettes, china dolls, building blocks. The white rabbit ate sawdust and he was so teethgnashy scary; this is definitely a nightmarish take on the tale.

WHY does this look always appeal to my interests so intensely? Will I ever outgrow a love for a kneesock and a maryjane??? Shouldn't I be over this by now??? (Please don't answer that.)

This was my favorite part:after she creates an ocean of her tears, a rat takes refuge on the island of her head. She lets him stay until he hacks off part of her hair and starts a campfire to heat up some hobo beans ("That's just rude, thought Alice").

I only made it about three quarters through before I was like OK, BASTA... I couldn't take the dreary weirdness any longer, although I do adore a pink pinafore and a fringe, obvs.

In conclusion: When I am old I will have a room in my house that will be scaled to make you feel like Alice after she eats from the side that makes you grow LARRRRRGERRRRRRR. (Pls see above for refernce) And I will still be wearing knee socks.

buffalo stance

I was very generously given a MOUNTAIN of old magazines and books by a friend who recently moved.

If you are looking to preruse all the late 90s and early aughts issues of i-D magazine, COME OVER. I made some chili. We can drink hot toddies and get giddy together.

I plan to give yous some old fashion print based fashion mind blowings at least once a week; I have already started marking spreads and stories and superdupes greatness. As they say, WATCH THIS SPACE !

cops & queers make good lookin' models

Today let's take a little trip down memory's highway and tip our 40s to the awesome but short lived GLAMROCKER period of Brian Warner, aka Marylin Manson.

Mechanical Animals, anyone?

I MISS THIS!
In a weird way, I think I started to get more of an appreciation for fashion's hilarity when this record came out. First, the songs are sort of amazing, and secondly...Manson was KILLING IT with this look. No one was really going all weird at this point; I remember watching his perfomance on the MTV Music awards that year (99) and giggling with DELIGHT because it was so over the top and FUN. and FUNNY.

I SPY A RAZORBLADE RING! PAGING GAGA?

LET'S DO ONE OF THOSE CGI DUETS WITH MANSON THEN AND GAGA NOW. BFFS!

It's the same way I feel about Gaga...they are basically living out an elaborate art project that is here to make us all laugh and have a good time. And, I suspect, it is way to amuse THEMSELVES.

BOOBIES AND A BARBIE CROTCH

This era was not too well received and good ole MM has gone back to being a white-faced wonky eyed Satan-loving creeper of the darkness.
Which..is fine, I guess, except I prefer Platform latex boots and chola lipliner. It's much more fun.

Please listen to this all day today, I am gonna. And the next time you do karaoke, consider writhing on the floor at your dollar-a-song joint of choice while you whine: THE DRUGS, THEY SAY, ARE MADE IN CALIFORNIAAAAAA...it will probably get you a standing O.

rosannadannabananaz

Is it ok that I have realized that as time goes on, these are basically my hair icons?

I want to keep my bangs as straight and flat as possible, and then let the rest be a fluffed out frizzcloud of insanity. I am already headed in that direction, but I want it BIGGER.
Halfway between a coddington and a Radner. I am also still dreaming of Karen Elson red for my own head...Gingerkid in 2010? Something to ponder.

they don't make 'em like this anymore

How about d-d-dying just a little bit on this horribly rainy Thursday ? [ED NOTE: it is actually Wednesday. SHTOOPS. I am nothing if not ON POINT]

Wowowow! Catherine Deneuve is just like me! I, too, dislike very much familiarity and love elusive people (Wait, do I? Catherine is just so seductive, I will go along with it).

*This post inspired by Aviva's relentless (mainly fruitless) search last night for youtubes of Designer Impostor perfumes

sweden

I've recently come back to my long-ago serious obsession with the movie Blue in the Face..have you ever seen it? it's a semi-improv documentary style film set in Brooklyn, sorta about this cigar shop run by Harvey Keitel? I am not decribing it well. it's so strange and weird funny.

whoa, Madonna! Remember when her face looked like that?

There are all these weird cameos (um, Madonna? Roseanne?) but Lou Reed and Jim Jarmusch (hearts hearts hearts) steal the movie.

Jim Jarmusch, longtime fake babymaker fantasy

I decided I need to go out and rent this IMMEDIATELY (also need to buy Truth or Dare, HOW do i not own this already, i am a failure). There is a bizarre segment on belgian waffles?

Take 1:38 seconds out of your day and get into this. I think this is how i feel about New York these days? haaa.

you've got that certain something

FALL INSPIRATION IS UPON ME. it better be, it's gettin cold up in here.
after spending a good ten days watching/twittering/texting/facebooking (remind me to slap myself later) about the"cryin" video by aerosmith:

i have finally fully formulated my fall vibe: neo-grunge silverstone.
i bought this skirt the other day and it sort of cemented everything in my brain..plaid flannel mini with a black tulle overlay? SOOOO NEO GRUNGE! sometimes f21 steps it up.

clicklclicklclick

the full silverstone would be to wear this with my combat boots or those wood-heeled docs, but this is the alternate- clogs? i am so into it!

i feel like grey ribbed tights might be the fulltime must for this fall, for me at least. they look weird good with everything.
baggy crocheted sweater thing, free tweed coat (needs buttons, i'm getting to it EVENTCH). today's outfit is just the START, i need to perfect this jazz.

things i need to LIVE THE DREAM:
flannel shirts that i like (i have ONE from this summer's thriftventures)
a perfect ratty denim skirt?
THOSE DOC BOOTS
...a bellybutton barbell?
stephen dorff
dramatic bungee jumps
a boy who will get half heart tattoos with me?

alas, the perfect flippy 1990s LA hair shall never be mine, not in the cards. i will have to be satisfied with (to quote molinga from earlier today) "silverstone by way of beetlejuice" because....that's my lot in life.

number one with an umlaut

happy wednesday animal print inspiration?
wait...animal print, short hair AND clog inspiration:

chloe sevs, kids era. (1994-5ish)
ALWAYS BEEN DOPE. it hurts, just a lil.

the first kiss lasts forever

i am so sick right now, broskevitches.

hotface fever and chills and glands all swollen and um..general ATTRACTIVENESS.

i apologize for being MIA, on the internets and I R L, but...i feel like i'm underwater in hell.

BUT

i just got the sad news about john hughes and i can't believe it.

i saw the breakfast club for the first time when i was about 7 (my parents were pretty LAX on thewhole ratings for movies thing), when it came out on videoand watched it about 400 million times. i still know the dialogue verbatim (we all do).

like most of us that were kids in the 80s (old lady alert) the breakfast club, 16 candles, ferris bueller, pretty in pink, and my all-time fave: some kind of wonderful were like...on permanent VHS rolls. slumber party staples, afterschool imperatives.

i watched this movie every day in 8th grade. forget TWILIGHT, this shit is the realdeal highschool love story to crush out on, best kiss ever:

ps, 2 mary stuart masterson related posts in a row, and 2nd john hughes related post of the week? ...teenage regression much? (aka my whole life)

RIP

it's so fucking GOOD.
she wears brogues and untied ankle boots the whole time too, love it. why can't i live it???

oh right, i'm not a feisty southern gal with a questionable relationship with my ladyfriend in 1930s alabama.
also, i look stupid in pants.

ps, chloe sevz knows the scene, this shit is so her. trust me on this!

"everything is permissible as long as it's fantastic"

on the long list of MUST GET SOMEHOWs:

carlo mollino: architect, furniture designer, druggie, aviator, lunatic, erotic instant photography enthusiast

first edition carlo mollino books, specifically Polaroid.

signore mollino was a man of man interests and talents but his pervytown polaroids of mostly naked ladies in his home, some lounging on furniture of his own design, are what really capture my attention. obvs they are sorta porno, but i dont look at them as a sexual thing; they are so oddly compelling to me aside from the shock factor..

this post is a tad NSFW, i suppose. doooops.

italian bombshell booties with tanlines and 60s undewear! NO. BRAINER.

so who wants to buy this for me? it can run up to a cool 650 bones but it is AWESOME and i will love you forever! anyone?........anyone?

homeskis, i am so so so feeling giles resort !

giles / resort 2010

something about pixie's off kilter cutieness is giving me a total vibe of the UBERiconic corinne day kate moss photo...with maybe a soupçon of the juergen teller courtney love photos i posted the other day?

either way i am totally lusting after all this kooky pinkness. i mean, those SUNGLASSES?
hand 'em over, geldof!

pre-teen love

one of the TRULY great shows of my formative years came out on DVD last week.

hi parker hi. his shirt is very hussein chalayan slash christopher kane resort, no?

parker lewis can't lose was the other show besides 90210 that i would tape every week on my ancient 1970's vcr so i could watch the episodes over and over and over again.
it was a sort of absurdist slapstick-y teen comedy that broke the 4th wall- talking to the camera non reality stuff .
i was pretty obsessed.

i mean..i say "truly great" because it was so epic in my memory..
i think i thought it was superfunny.
i know i thought corin nemec was the cutest boy of all times.
OG crotchthrob.
proto bass.
approx. 18 yrs B.R. (before ronson).
ya know what i'm saying.

hold up, i just realized something:
my teevee star bone fantasies are always so CLEAN CUT while my IRL lust-targetz are ususally such dirty dirts.
what does this all mean.....?

basically nothing.
i'm just boy crazy.

let's remember the time

we took a wrong turn on our way to the tate last saturday and ended up at Idea Books. basically a dream destination for photo book and magazine junkies like myself.

i have wanted this juergen teller book for a while..it wasn't too expensive and i HAD TO HAVE IT. it was published in 1996, all the portraits are from the early 90s and they are SO FUCKING GOOD.

linda evangelista

look. at. linda.
do you fucking DIE?!
she was givin face like NOBODY'S BIDNESS.
i hate that she looks all botox-y now, it makes my heart hurt a lil.

courtney love

super iconic courtney love shoot, doy.
i feel like i remember this from SPIN but maybe not?
basically the sartorial inspiration for my junior & senior years of high school.

kristen mcmenamy

the real star of this book is kristen.
the pictures of her are so incredibly SICK.
the series above, the nudes with the lipstick are so so good. so off and twisted.
i feel like it's hard to appreciate juergen's style these days when everyone in the universe is a copycat but looking through this book you realize when it's GOOD it's fucking great.

more spreads with chloe, vivienne westwood, and kate moss on my tumblr. go see!!

ps
i didn't buy a thing from topshop, just spent my cash at the bookstores in london and i couldn't be happier. more to come in the next week.
