makin it happen

Some sneaky peeks at the shoot I styled a few days ago for my favorite breakfast partner Ms Amanda Warner aka MNDR. We did her press shots and some editorial shiz for a Weiden+Kennedy magazine.

She looked so fucking good...if I do say so myself (and I just did). Here are just some randoms i had a second to snap...

Kris Van Assche sheer blazer // Mara Hoffman bathing suit (as shirt) // OAK sheer +lycra bike shorts // Pamela Love lattice bib necklace & rings // Pipertree Jewelry crystal necklace (a gift made for me that I ADORE!) // CHRISHABANA cross necklace // Amanda's signature glasses

Mara Hoffman metallic wool moto jacket // my own crocheted vintage crop top // Mara Hoffman bathing suit (as shirt) // Pamela Love sacred heart necklace // Nicholas K FW10 pants

SO MUCH JEWWWREE: Beaded Mara Hoffman harness, a hangtag necklace that Sunshine made and sent me, some of my own crafts, some of my own sunglasses, borrowed metal Karen Walkers, Black Sheep & Prodigal Sons solid gold honeycomb necklace, lots of Pamela Love, some CHRISHABANA, my neon Guatemalan scrunchie from last summer's Vision Quest.

Karen Walker sunglasses // Nicholas K FW10 jacket // Sophomore NEW YORK tee // Mara Hoffman Leggings // my own SOCKMAN socks // my own Jeffrey Campbell Snick platforms // my own Black Sheep & Prodigal Sons knuckleplate ring //Amanda's own necklace

Random street vendor sunglasses // Electric Feathers jumpsuit // Black Sheep & Prodigal Sons knotted leather necklace & braided horsehair piece (worn as belt) // Amanda's own bracelet

I am sooooo happy with the shoot. Tim Saccenti, the photographer, was incredible and Amanda is a fucking star.
Can't wait to show you all the real deal holyfield photos...coming soon!

I have NOT been able to stop looking at these pictures of Bea Szenfeld's collection since I spied them last week on StyleBubble....

The RED RED RED of it all!
Ginormo paillettes!!
Her freckles!!!
And her stare.

I am mesmerized and enchanted and more than a teeeeensy bit jellyballs.

i call her red

Monday night Christine invited me to be her +1 for Karen Elson's sold out solo show at Le Poisson Rouge.

REAL LIFE DREAM WEAVER

She was...luminous. Magical. Incandescent? I may not know the right words. I died more than a few times.
I don't think I will have a day where I am like, I NEED to listen to a Karen Elson record today; it's the only thing that will get me through; it isn't exactly my thing..BUT- her voice is gorgeous. I was taken aback at how incredible she sounded.

(I forgot my FLIP! ADM*! Here is a tiny clip from my Lumix, twill have to suffice)

SPEAKING OF INCREDS, let's discuss how she LOOKED: That long peachyglowdress (with matching fascinator AND microphone fringe) and her unbelievably hypnotically gorge orange flame pennylocks. Superjelz x 100 millzbillz.

I am sorry to gush, but she is a VISION. And my hair idol. And so pretty I want to CRY.

Oh and no bigs, my second hair idol and Head of the Pennylocks Hair Association, Grace Coddington was there, front row and center. Amaze.

*ADM is AY DIOS MIO! Obvi, it's the new OMG. PASS IT ON!

You want to get into this like, NOW. SHE IS THE DOPESHOW !!!

I took some vids at her show at Coco66 last weekend, I wish you had been there, it was sooo fucking great.

Can't wait to see her again with YACHT next week at Bowery!

celestial

Yesterday we watched about 7 hours of Big Love. Which sounds pretty bad when I say it out loud, which is a pity because it was DELIGHTFUL. All caught up to the current episode, which was superweird in a season that is superweird, so much shit is happening I can't keep it straight.

A note on my absolute favorite woman on that show, favorite favorite favorite:

BITCH DID SOME CRAZY SHIT IN MEXICO.

SISTER LOIS HENRICKSON.
Oh... you thought I was gonna say Nicky? No, sowwy Chloé. You are 2nd (but a very close second, obvs).

Lois IS AMAZING. I am slightly bummed out that she is..softer this season. In her demeanor and her face. She is usually so sourpussed and overly blunt that I start cracking up as soon as she is on screen.

I live for a cantankerous bitter old Southern woman (please see Shirley Maclaine in Steel Magnolias:TOP BITCH. ps, she wears a fur coat with overalls, STYLE ICON), if you must know.

I would love to interview the head costume designer at Big Love to talk Lois Looks. She wears the ugliest shit but it is weirdly AU COURANT. Lots of army green and khaki, overalls and vintage coats. (My favorite part EVER is when she gives her floral vintage coat with fur trim to Sarah and says, "I want you to have this. It was made in America and it's got good pockets.")

She's not supposed to be fashionable, like at all. But as with most things that try to be outside of style, they sometimes end up being the most stylish (see anything anyone wears IRONICALLY in Brooklyn). Obvs, tons has been written about the "Mormon chic" of the show, it must have it's own blog somewhere. (I live for it. If you have a fuckyeahmormonchic tumblr, pls leave it in the comments!) The weird modesty and utility of their outfits is really IN right now...

Case in point? Socks and platform sandals! SOOO now and SO F/W 2010 !

Bitch is ON TREND, even when she's jailed in Mexico for bird smuggling and just cut off a Mormon kingpin's arm with a machete. (I wish I was joking) (Are those Korkease?)

kellz

Dear Kelly Cutrone,

Please know that I have been wishingggg for this day since you first appeared on MTV and became the voice of the SANE: i.e. those of us watching at home screaming OH MAH GAH JUST SHUT UP AND DO YOUR JOBBBBBBBB YOU DUMMYDUM FAKE TEETHY BLONDIES. (Except for Whitnew, I've always had a soft spot for Whitballz..)
It seemed almost too good to be true; I don't care what's scripted or what's real or what is scripted real...I lived for every second.

Also? I read your book already and anyone who has that many references to the Goddess & a chapter on how life is better after 30 has made me a fan for LIFE. Are you taking on clients? Not for PR but to be a LIFE COACH? Because if you are..PLEASE CALL ME.

I pinky swear promise; if I have to cry i will ALWAYSSSSS go outside.

I don't think I can actually wait until 10 PM.

Yours truly and forever,
White Lightning

in my dreams

One day I will do something worthy of allowing me to appear somewhere wearing this outfit.
I am completely serious, I consider this a PERFECT LOOK.

Ok, let's get real. I would wear this anywhere, forget "spesh occasions".
Let's fangirl all over it, shall we?
1. Off-kilter bouffant. No one really needs to see this much of my face, btw, but I still would love to walk around like this. Mental note, buy giant bumpits and DIY it.
2. White mink shoulder stole straightjacket topper. Lurve.
3. Long flowy sequined skirt (dress?)with whats-his-name on it, increds.

and and AND:

4.A JUDITH LEIBER BAG. I have always had a dark secret love for JL novelty bags..they are so synonymous with expensive tacky aunt but I LOVE THEM.
I LOVE THEM.

Whyyyyyy wouldn't you want a bejeweled pavé glittery forestdwelling creature slung across your body that you can fill with superimportant things like red lipstick, stray pennies, a button from god knows what, airplane peanuts, a lucky rock, grape hubba bubba and $11 dollars american (TMI?)

Here it is! Gimmmeeeee:

Or this one:

Or, okay, I WILL TAKE THIS ONE TOO:

UNFORTCH FOR OL' WL, these sweet, sweet jazzholes cost like, $3,800+ bones on the average and SO it reallllyyy REALLY will never be my own personal intense pleasure to own one. Very sad, this thing we call real life.

karma chameleon

In addition to the superiorbrainwaves which produce things such as white latex Where the Wild-er Things Are outfits, I believe that the HAUS OF GAGA has determined a way to make some sort of atomizing DNA replicant elixir...

AMA performance, H.O.G. (haahahaha) exoskeleton bodysock..Gwen Stefani head transplant?

Post-AMA CASUAL: Vint Dior Homme + MMM + H.O.G = my always favorite era of Madge- Dick Tracy/Truth or Dare 1990/1991 ? (clearly her biggest influence, mine too, I just just KEEP IT ALL INSIDE)

RaRaOhhLaLa in A. Wang glasses...channeling Carol Channing?

Dear Haus of GeeGee, please send me a sample of this fantasgreat facechanging juice.

I will take 1 oz of Empire Records-era Liv Tyler

1 oz of Bjorkitude in this picture

and a spritzer of Marianne Faithfull

UPS or FEDEX, it's cool, whatever you prefer. THEEENKSSSS,
W.L.

time casts a spell on you

Between my new winter reading and this current addiction to Silver Springs, my winterwitch transformation is well on it's way.

I have never been a big Stevie Nicks fan, I have to admit this to you. But she IS the perfect witchywoman icon AND this song is tops. Especially for a sorta slowfeeling grey mellow preholidayinsanity kinda day like TODAY.

I mean:
"I'll follow you down til the sound of my voice will haunt you"?
Like, WOW Stevie, relax.
Did Lindsey Buckingham pee his pants the first time she presented this to the band? She was like..this is NOT about you Linds, seriously. I wrote it toooootalllllyyy about someone else, this guy you guys don't know. He lives in the Niagara Falls area (YOU WILL NEVER FORGET ME)"

rosannadannabananaz

Is it ok that I have realized that as time goes on, these are basically my hair icons?

I want to keep my bangs as straight and flat as possible, and then let the rest be a fluffed out frizzcloud of insanity. I am already headed in that direction, but I want it BIGGER.
Halfway between a coddington and a Radner. I am also still dreaming of Karen Elson red for my own head...Gingerkid in 2010? Something to ponder.

so bestest

That is IT, I am officially reinstating the Sassy magazine "Cute Band Alert". Here is a realllly good one for ya.
Last night I went to see HarMar at the Music Hall of Williamsburg, and was BLOWN AWAYYYYYY by the opening band.

BANG BANG ECHE!

HOW CUTE ARE THEY? Their EP is called Sonic Death Cunttt. Hilars.

They fucking ROCKED...cute kiwis jumping and thrashing around the stage, we were all dancing. GREAT LIVE SHOW! Best new band I have seen in a while, TRUST!

Emily and I were soooo pysched on T'Nealle, the female bass player (DOPE)..she was super rad and had a little white bow in her hair, girlcrush!

I might need to get this tonight

Afterward, I saw said New Girlcrush and as I was going to grab her and tell her how great she was, she ran up to ME and said "Elizabeth??? Are you White Lightning?" GAH, YES I AM.
She and her bandmates told me they love White Lightning and I basically turned fifty shades of red. So cool...Mutual appreciation club!

ADORBZ, right?

I just checked her blog, and I think I fell in love after reading How to Make a Pizza Bagel. Can you tell I am psyched on these kids? Just come see them tonight at Mercury Lounge! I will definitely be there.

Because, REALLY: Do you wanna miss THIS?

Photo from last night, from T'Nealle's blog

I mean..he did BOYZ II MEN, A CAPPELLA! Epic. Veevs and I tipped our 40s appropriately.
Sooo... I guess I'll see you THERE then? Great.

bifurcation nation

I am really tackling new frontiers this week...Get ready for it:

PANTS! Omigod.

If I am only going to own ONE pair of pants, I am pretty comfortable with it being Peggy Noland dropcrotch cheetah print ones with kneepatches and 2 sets of pockets. (the 2nd set are at the knees, duh).

Purchased at Peggy's boutique in Kansas City diuring the Vagabond Tour of Summer 09. I wore them all weekend and found them to be an absolute DELIGHT, if not QUITE the conversation starter.

Please note my bloglove doppelganger (bloggelganger?) in the top photo, Miss LouLou of LouLouLovesYou. Lou was in town for an all-to-brief visit from Londontown and not only did we get on famously, but we realized we look more than a lil bit alike? WEIRRRDDDDD! (But she has a much nicer accent and more alabaster complexion- jealz!).

PS In case you missed it the first time around, my lil interview with Peggy from July, girlcrush to the max.

pinky & leather

Today's adorbz 90s inspirationals come to you in the form of Tuscadero..anyone else remember them?!?

I was obsessed with the song Dime A Dozen in college (playing at the beginning of this clip). I have no idea what this "Slumber Party" show is but I am liking the plaid flannel pajama shirt look, maybe this is something to consider in my everyday?

I think the pink album may still stand up 10+ years later? At the very least Hollywood Handsome will still make you giggle (he's just so god damn hollywood handsome/too bad he just can't keep his pants on/better fuck him 'fore he's out of reach).

Find this shiz, thank me later!

some casual pieces for a lazy afternoon

i don't think i know one person who isn't fa-reakkinggggg out about where the wild things are (except maybe..my dad?)...i am sort of beside myself with excitement because CHRISTIAN JOY is doin the costumes (um, if you are not FAMILIAR she is the stylist/designer responsible for making karen o look like 800 million insane warrior princess dollars every time she performs...)

spike jonze & costumez

she has done some bonkerdonk film-inspired outfits that you can BUY (if you are well-toned and have a flair for the DRAMATIC) at the urban outfitters pop-up shop...

kill the wabbit? i want a viking helmet!

magickz

new favorite band alert:

forsorcerers
!

i met emily (the drummer, the lady of the fern in the pic above) at her studio/store sword+fern and was totally enamored of her crystal jangles (i am SO getting one before i leave).

she told me i should check out her band, they were playing this week at holocene.

SO GLAD I WENT!

the ladies of forsorcerers were SO FUCKING RAD. i think one or two of the gals are from team dresch (!! 90s heartcrushtimes).
it was like black sabbath rock out metalyness in a dark room with a giant projection over them of waves crashing and birds flying..i was so so into it.

portland: they play again sept 19, don't miss out.
new york and the world at large: GET ON THIS BAND!

ASHLEY MERRIMAN of TOP CHEF is makin me palpitate a teeny tiny lil bit.
ashley kinda looks like zach beirut's tougher cooler older bro except ummm ashley...is a girl?
it's like when i watch the L word and shane makes me feel all funny. it kinda fucks with my program.

so far she has proved unremarkable chefwise but that means nothing to me..LOOK at her, totes hot tattooed brochef style, it's really getting me. sam mason, i am maybe over you?

claire & jona aka YACHT !

more than a few people have been telling me recently that i would LOVE the new yacht record..they were so right, it rules.

claire took me, marisa and bdonns thrifting yesterday deep in gresham, which is basically where all the crazy METH STORIES of portland come from. holy shit. there were some scary ass people in these stores.

but i found amazing shit (those posts are pending) and claire got hero status for the epic thrift spots and best banh mi knowledge. she is also supergame for when i get into my OMG YOU NEED THIS PUT IT ON RIGHT NOW BUY IT HOLYSHIT phases, especially when the item in question is a white suit jacket with sheer sleeves and gold buttons (spoiler alert, she bought it and looks AMAZE. trust!).

anyways...check out this record, you know you are so tired of your itunes right now.

get into it!
