zinez

I am in love with the photos that people are sending us of their First Kiss zines !! It is way beyond exciting to see them out in the world.

Here is a total fave that I could NOT wait to show everyone: Hunter's friend Colin Foord whose company Coral Morphopologic, "serves to connect discerning, conscientious aquarists with the highest quality Floridian corallimorphs, ricordea, and zoanthids" (I think that basically means they breed and sell amazing corals and things? RAD!), sent us a gorgeous photo of FK communing with nature...

Colin's unbelievably awesome pic:

I LOVE IT!
I want to wear those guys! Get me 50 of those neon dudes, stat. Gonna wear them all over a wetsuit and be toootalllyyy AVANT.

Morphologic Studios seems to do real cool stuff; they make these weird cool videos of underwater life and sometimes...rock posters?

Oh, hey there Tiger Flatworm.

LOVING all these trippy marinelife thangthangs. Colin, you maybe have the coolest job in the world. Thanks for the pic!

PS
If you have a copy of First Kiss, please send a photo! We will put them up on the First Kiss Zine blog and love you forever.

(un)TIMELY: met gala!

Whenever I get on a roll with other writing stuff, I get way inspired to write on THIS BLOG and then I drop everything else and just write here and then...I never get anything done. I am not, as they say, SPECTACULARLY TIME EFFICIENT.

Sue me. (You'd probs win about $600 USD, a few choice issues of RAYGUN magazine and more vintage polyester frocks than you will know what to do with. I hope that's ok with you)

I never did a Met Gala post. I want to do a Met Gala post.
HERE WE GO.

BEST EVER OR I DIE OR FUCK THAT LOOKS SO GOOD

C SEVS IN PROENZA SCOULER

Fuuuuuuuck. This is perfection. Wait, this is beyond that..this is life goal.
It's the kind of thing that shouldn't look good on like, anybody and you can't tell anyone about, they just have to SEE it on you ("Um, it's like..a long-sleeved teal lace dress, with kind of a mock turtleneck?"). World please note: The night of the party it was about 98 degrees, raining and humid as hell- a lovely RAIN FOREST LIKE evening. HOW DOES SHE LOOK SO UN-SWEATY?

BONUS SEVS LOVE (also in lace!):

If wearing eye make-up didn't make me look like a 13-year-old trying to sneak into DA CLUB..I would go for this weird eyelid stripe.

Anyways, back to the GAAAAAALLLAAAAAAA

CHARLOTTE GAINSBOURG IN BALENCIAGA (bien sur, doy doy doy)

Ok, at least SHE looks like what I would look like- and that is to say sweaty as fuck. I could personally care less what happens on her head, body, hand, neck, ears, WHATEVAH. Let's have REAL TALK about her below-the-ankle situation: That shit is BAY NAY NAYS increds. You know when I miss not working at a fashion magazine anymore? When I have the need to just HOLD a shoe like that. E.G. RIGHT NOW.

GRACE CODDINGTON IN...A FORMAL SANDAL

Hey, commit to your look..Whatevs it was a WORK party, basically I applaud it and I applaud your hair. Fuck those gowns! It was hot as hell that night!

THE ZOE IN MARC JACOBS

This is glorious. I want it. I wanna pet it. Gimme that.

BEST USE OF A MOGWAI

CHRISTINA HENDRICKS IN SOMETHING, I DON'T WANT TO LOOK IT UP.

Rough night for a smoky eye. Um..why is Gizmo on her shoulder? JUST WONDERING.
At least she had this to entertain her throughout the night:

don't shake it

Today is THE DAY!
What day, you ask? The day, my dear friends, that THIS GUY:

My dear old SX-70 land camera, purchased in college for $40 at the height of my Charles & Ray Eames obsession*, will finally be PUT BACK TO WORK.

How's that?

POLAROID FILM IS BACK!
The Impossible Project, who took on the task, has done the impossible and saved analog instant joy.

It's called PX SilverShade  / First Flush
Right now it comes in 100 & 600 ASA, and is only sepia and B&W but color is coming by the end of the year! The film is universal for any working Polaroid camera that uses the battery pack film (SX70s and 600s are the best).

Are you happy happy and full of joy?
I AM.
It's $22 bones for 8 frames but I don't wanna hear ya complaining. You can order it on their site starting today.

The darkslide comes with secret messages!
Before it develops, the film is YVES KLEIN BLUE!
It's delicious. I am high on life.

Time to make some magic.

THANK YOU IMPOSSIBLE PROJECT!!!!!

PS: *watch this movie!!!!

fashion and art and drugs

More S/S 2010 campaign love aka WHITE LIGHTNING ART APPRECIATION DAY

COMME DES GARÇONS // SS 2010

The artwork is by the artist Stephen J Shanabrook, (in collaboration with Veronika Georgieva) from his series called "Paper Surgeries".
I dig it; it inspired me to look for other pieces of his from the same series...

So weird and great, no?
Too bad they didn't go the route of his "works of HEROIN" :
STEPHEN J. SHANABROOK
Which is covered in crack pipes and heroin foil..but sorta looks like a Sophie Calle Chromatic Meal?

SOPHIE CALLE

And that concludes today's installment of ART CHAT with LADY LIGHTNING.
Let's all get back to refreshing Dlisted six thousand times an hour, mmkay?

some casual pieces for a lazy afternoon

i don't think i know one person who isn't fa-reakkinggggg out about where the wild things are (except maybe..my dad?)...i am sort of beside myself with excitement because CHRISTIAN JOY is doin the costumes (um, if you are not FAMILIAR she is the stylist/designer responsible for making karen o look like 800 million insane warrior princess dollars every time she performs...)

spike jonze & costumez

she has done some bonkerdonk film-inspired outfits that you can BUY (if you are well-toned and have a flair for the DRAMATIC) at the urban outfitters pop-up shop...

kill the wabbit? i want a viking helmet!

you could wear this, why not?

neon fringe, sign me up

CJoy is on my list of ladies i adore, i mean anyone who whip up this little number:

...deserves my everlasting love, respect and devotion, doncha think?

"everything is permissible as long as it's fantastic"

on the long list of MUST GET SOMEHOWs:

carlo mollino: architect, furniture designer, druggie, aviator, lunatic, erotic instant photography enthusiast

first edition carlo mollino books, specifically Polaroid.

signore mollino was a man of man interests and talents but his pervytown polaroids of mostly naked ladies in his home, some lounging on furniture of his own design, are what really capture my attention. obvs they are sorta porno, but i dont look at them as a sexual thing; they are so oddly compelling to me aside from the shock factor..

this post is a tad NSFW, i suppose. doooops.

italian bombshell booties with tanlines and 60s undewear! NO. BRAINER.

so who wants to buy this for me? it can run up to a cool 650 bones but it is AWESOME and i will love you forever! anyone?........anyone?

let's remember the time

we took a wrong turn on our way to the tate last saturday and ended up at Idea Books. basically a dream destination for photo book and magazine junkies like myself.

i have wanted this juergen teller book for a while..it wasn't too expensive and i HAD TO HAVE IT. it was published in 1996, all the portraits are from the early 90s and they are SO FUCKING GOOD.

linda evangelista

look. at. linda.
do you fucking DIE?!
she was givin face like NOBODY'S BIDNESS.
i hate that she looks all botox-y now, it makes my heart hurt a lil.

courtney love

super iconic courtney love shoot, doy.
i feel like i remember this from SPIN but maybe not?
basically the sartorial inspiration for my junior & senior years of high school.

kristen mcmenamy

the real star of this book is kristen.
the pictures of her are so incredibly SICK.
the series above, the nudes with the lipstick are so so good. so off and twisted.
i feel like it's hard to appreciate juergen's style these days when everyone in the universe is a copycat but looking through this book you realize when it's GOOD it's fucking great.

more spreads with chloe, vivienne westwood, and kate moss on my tumblr. go see!!

ps
i didn't buy a thing from topshop, just spent my cash at the bookstores in london and i couldn't be happier. more to come in the next week.

i'm crazy for you, blog

i have missed the hell out of you my darlings and that is truestfax..i hate not blogging on the regs, and i hate that that sentence is really true. (NERD)

check it:
we had a day of free time on saturday!
it was basically devoted to sleeping in and then it took about 400 hours to walk to the tate modern (and about 400 more hours to navigate it. NEGATIVE POINTS FOR FLOW, ENGLISH MUSEUM PLANNER BRAHS.) and it was HUMID and a little bit ICKY but we POWERED THROUGH. all in the name of ART.

there is a ruscha ROOM. dopeness.
the top left is an all time favorite, obvs

the tate is the only museum i have been to that devotes so much space (or any?) to fluxus artwork. as a certified yoko ono lovah/aesthetics nerd, it's pretty exciting.

m/m paris posters..superhuge and pretty fucking cool I R Lz.

there is also a jeff koons room, or did you already know?
it's obscenely reflective, if you were wondering.
see...I STILL EXIST!
i know this blog in the past week has not supported that argument.

things are gonna be back to norms soon enough...
one more day in londontown..and then it's back to bikes and beers and layers in july. (i miss portland!!! i really do...what does that mean?)

space needlez

who says i got no culture? went to the seattle art museum yesterday.

that's me in the middle, dark n mysterious. nerd.

their modern & contemporary art was kinda cool, i enjoyed myself.
oh and there are mirrors to take eerie pictures in inside the "old plates room".

in this city of seattle there are very attractive men with tattoos that throw fish around.
i am unclear as to the actual point.

ps:
everything i know about seattle i learned from singles & the real world (irene face slap! anyone?)
off to find a citizen dick tee shirt (which would be the best gift i could give brendan ever, probs)

a compliment for us, is a compliment for you

it's been building up inside of me for oh i don't know how long

i had my first fresh coconut of the year today..there is NOTHINGGGGG better than a sunny day & cocunut.

it's fucking GLORIOUS outside, loverpantses.
let's listen to the beach boys and maybe take a walk with someone you dig?

i am outtie for the weekend, gonna hit up the PENN STATE scene for my cousin's graduation (yaaaay lauren!). i wanna go to a frat party..is that wrong?

***for those of you in the city, PLEASE go to court for louise's big opening! it will be amazing, i am sorry to miss it...

picture bookz

recent acquisitions in the quest to keep my brain from becoming zeros and ones:

mike mills graphics films

i love mike mills. i love him so much. marry me.
mental note: need to dig out all old x-girl tshirts, post haste.
there is a picture of a pile of them in the book and i own at least 4 of 'em. (...somewhere)

also this:

the last magazine #2

fifty-eight pictures of natasha / camilla akrans

this magazine is so insanely enormous. i feel like edith ann reading the newspaper. (whoa..reference for old people? classic sesame street, dudes!)
the first issue was a bit boring, oopsy?
i liked this issue muuuuuch more content-wise (beyond the seductive ginormity). it's still a bit of an 'eh', though; to be honest.

ps, official review of M/M redesigned interview mag? GIANT THUMBS DOWN. shocking. so let down. thanks for killing me softly, mon freres.

man's inhumanity to man

spent friday afternoon at the armory show..i wasn't really floored by anything but i do love to go.

note to the art world : ENOUGH with the poignant phrases set in neon -"the truth is a lie" or some shit. i saw like, 15 pieces like that. maybe more. [old timey flashing colored lightbulbs are still acceptable, see above.]

note to gallery assistants: ENOUGH with the giant eyeglasses.

sacha baron cohen's next movie needs to be about the ART BIZ, good grief.

ps i'll post some other things i liked at the show on the tumblr tomorrow...
