transitive properties

Good Morning, hotsteppers & lyrical gangsters.
I have a little Sensual SAT Prep question prepared for you.. Please have your pencils ready and eyes on your own paper.

Q:
If I love my dear blöggerganger LouLou (who really IS my British twin)...

... and LouLouLovesYou, (by way of making the cuhuuuutest silky underyourclothessituations) how many pairs of knickers with hearts on the ass can I buy before I spend all my rent money?

When you have successfully finished the equation, please pass your scantrons –face down– to the front of the room.

Thank you, class dismissed.

i can coast on these for a while

My friend Phil (who is responsible for setting me up with one of my favorite new friends in a while, Ms Amanda Warner) expressed an interest in taking portraits of me and some of my officemates...We are all REALLY SHY and so it was a struggle, but in the end we agreed.

I am so glad we did, they are seriously amazing!

One of my favorite vintage dresses (Portland thrifts!) and my insane Black Sheep & Prodigal Sons knuckle plate ring.

Gavin's glamour shots. This is what he looks like every day, it gets a little messy.

Lesley, looking dope as haaayy-ell. I love those thigh-highs, hottness.

I haven't been able to go in to the office for over a week..I miss it!
Just know I look at your picture and a tear silently rolls down my cheek, you guys.

Thank you, Phil!!

mag hag

Thanks Lurve, for sending me the latest issue! I perused it this weekend at my office..see?

LURVE MAGAZINE // ISSUE 3 // SPRING/SUMMER 2010

Very cool issue, my favorites were the editorial shot by my blogger galfriend-turned-IRL galfriend Zana Bayne ! SO much A.F. Vandevorst (not a shocker, if you follow Garbage Dress!)

It really got my springtimes juices flowing. I feel a new mag buying spree coming on...

that's the look

Saturday I got to spend some QT with my old friend Ms Angela Barrow...and this bitch just about killed me with her ensemble.

DENIM ON DENIM, COLLAR BUTTONED, DOPE JANGLE !!

BLACK DENIM "BIBB" NECKLACE BY CHEEK-IE (ANGELA'S JEWREE LINE)..BRACELETS ARE VINTAGE, CHEEK-IE & ARIELLE DEPINTO

BE CUTER, WHY DON'T YOU

I basically try to steal one of Angie's necklaces every time I see her.
This style is a particulare favorite, but let's get real I love them ALL.
My favorite Cheek-ie items of all time are black chokers she custom made me a few years ago- IMPORTANT Q: WHEN DO CHOKERS GET THEIR MOMENT IN THE REDUX SUN??

The denim on different denim mix is so so SO SO GOOD for right this second.

I THINK I FINALLY "GET" KRISTEN STEWART, PS

One of my fave looks in the new Runaways movie is Dakota Fanning in a denim shirt (like Barrow's) tucked into highwaisted dark denim ripped jeans, tucked into knee high green platform Bowie boots. I tried to find a screenshot of it, but I couldn't. This denim jumpsuit look will have to suffice.

CHLOE S/S 2010

If yr feeling a baggier denim shirt vibe, I think this is the way to do it. If I wore pants, I would crafternoonitize some light denim knee patches STAT. While yr at it rip the pockets off of the shirt, sick detail.

Just a little spring wardrobe inspo for you on this most perfect of March weekends, YOU'RE WELCOME.

i want to be your blow pop queen

Last night was..pretty major.
My dear dear friend Marisa Meltzer, she of the amazing new book Girl Power and my partner in FIRST KISS the zine, asked me to be part of her event at the 92YTribeca, What it Feels Like For A Girl, along with Emily Gould and Sean Fennessey and mynewfavoritegirls Supercute.
She suggested I talk about Lady Gaga, and really, who can say NO to that?!?

I said yes, got excited, then..the night before I had a panic attack and possibly cried a little and freaked out.
I HAVE STAGE FRIGHT! Major. Public speaking is SCARY to me! It always has been! Good grief.

But last night (after a whiskey) I felt..excited?!

Marisa was so composed, funny and brilliant..Talking about how COURTNEY LOVE FRIENDED HER ON FB (true story!) and then read from her book AND Courtney's published diaries.

Emily read a chapter from her forthcoming new book, And the Heart Says Whatever (currently reading it and I love it)  and SANG (!!!) Liz Phair's "Flower" with Supercute (note, as the super cute Supercute is a band of 3 delightful 14 yr olds, Emily reworte the lyrics to be TEEN FRIENDLY. SO funny. My fave part "I'll take you home and make you pancakes").

Sean, our brave boy in this sea of GIRLNESS, talked Nicky Minaj (sooo DOPE) and RAPPED HER LYRICS.

I mean. You guys, it was so great.

I was last. I got up there, with a laser pointer (YES!) and a slideshow, with nothing written down...and HAD SO MUCH FUN. I wasn't nervous. I wasn't scared. Even when the computer wasn't working at first, I just rolled with it. I can't tell you you how I surprised myself...but I did. And it was so fun. I traced Lady Gaga's sartorial evolution in the past year (her rise to mega-fame), with school as a metaphor?

If you were wondering what the hell that means, here are the title slides for the 4 sections of my (highly non-scientific and largely ridiculous) discussion:

It made sense (kinda) if you were there.

What a night. Thank you Marisa and Emily and Sean. Thank you Supercute. Thank you everyone who came to watch us.

THANK YOU LASERPOINTER..I reallllly need one of those things for my every day, what a revelation.

ps, Supercute will be getting their own post this week. They slayed me.

pleetz pleez

The Samantha Pleet F/W 2010 show & afterparty was truly a friend filled fun fest.

SAM AND HER MODELS, POST RUNWAY

Sam's collection, which is really my absolute fave of hers to date, is full of plaids n parkas and capes and rompers and paperbagged highwaisted skirts that are going to be major.

She did a collab with Osborn (they of my Somali-pirate oxfords that I bought in April 09 at the Brooklyn Flea) and used silks that had been first buried in the ground for 3 months (I know)!
Sam is nothing if not whimsical.

The lookbook was styled and shot by the insanely wonderful and vivacious duo of Miss Kathleen Clements and Andrew DeFrancesco, respectively. They also co-directed a video to accompany the collection.

When Kat proposed I crafternoon with her to make some quasi-hippie-mystical jewwwrieees for SP Fall 2010, how could I say no? I love adding a SLASH to my job title!

Here is a melange of SP related imagery for Fall 2010. Some lookbook, some runway, some film stills, some shots of my jangles and some of my iphone pics...Start making your lists nowwww:

i'm kinda scared to dance

Yesterday at the office Lesley gave me a copy of her book, (which I remember stealing from an editor at work when it came out a couple years ago) and between last night's Pratt commute and this early morning's insomnia, I have already re-read it and I am so glad I did.

We're the same age and grew up in the tri-state errrea and so so many details in her early entries made me smile cuz they were so familiar- and when she mentioned in her diary at some point in high school that the band Weston stayed her house, my 16 year-old-self freaked out. I loved Weston!!! I used to go see them play in church basements and VFWs with my cousin Michelle in high school and now I have to post this song because it's been running through my mind all day..JUST LIKE KUUUU-HU-HU-RTTTT..

I wish they had a music video, but this shitty little gymnasium performance takes me back to 1995 and I like it.

flipping out

Wednesday night I went to see Bear in Heaven's sold out show at the Mercury Lounge. The vibe was so DARK AND MYSTICAL...lights out, incense burnin...they were soooo good.

Can I just say that I LOVE my FLIP video camera thing? The audio quality is SICK. And now I can make HD quality amateur porn in my living room! Best Christmas gift EVER, thanks mom and dad!

I wear very few band tees but these are reallllllyyyyy gooooood. Must. Have.

BIH will be touring MAYJAH-LY starting in March, go go go...and tell Adam Wills you love his moustache.

i made a thing, part IV

CRAFTERNOONNIGHTS with Keren are back on track, now that the holidaze and thangs are out of the way. If you remember the last installment, we made jewwreez outta tape n paperclips. This week's theme was STUFF ON OUR HEADS!

Keren was making hats for a lookbook and so I took a cue from that.
I got obsessed with construction paper feathers?

WAY too fun. Not entirely sure when I will need to wear ths, I guess for my next SPIRIT ANIMAL SEANCE ? JUST A HEADDRESS AND A SMILE!

JUTE TWINE & NEON NYLON ROPE HEADBAND, CONSTRUCTION PAPER FEATHERS

PAPER FEATHER FASCINATOR

I didn't get any good pics of Keren and her handiwork, but here is a lil video I like to call CRAFTERMATH. If you've ever wondered what kind of a mess we get ourselves into, it looks like this.

You can see my feathers, Keren's goth-y velvety fascinators, and Palazzo's uh.."project" which I termed his THINKING CAP.

It looks like this:

THIS IS ONLY HALF FINISHED, THERE ARE GOOGLY EYES ON IT NOW

And when you put it on, it makes ya DANCE LIKE THIS

SO HAPPY CRAFTERNIGHTZ are BACK! What will we make next week? Stay tuned, brahs!

daydream believers

Last night ADF showed me this happy little moment he captured of Kat & I on the beach in Quogue:

I NEED TO WEAR THIS IN MANHATTAN MORE: CLOAK (RIP!) SWEATER // AA GOLD LEGGINGS // DOLCE VITA LACEUP BOOTS FROM THE NICE PEOPLE AT URBAN OUTFITTERS // ANCIENT MIU MIU BAG THAT I ADDED THAT STRAP TO.

Kat is holding a heart shaped shell that she found! WHO FINDS THAT? Not I.
And wearing the best redridinghood cape ever. I was wearing my pajamas under that sweater aka my tie-dyed Metallica tee, BECAUSE I AM VERY CLASSY.

I miss Quogue! When is the summer again?

secret weaponz

The latest installment of Spiridakis/Richter Crafternoon(night) was maaayyyybeeee our best?
There was the Lady Gaga bow day, and the crazy knots day..now we have moved onto the very refined world of PAPER CLIPS AND ELECTRICAL TAPE, inspired by the mystical and awesome Manu jangles that we love but sadly cannot afford.

We started with a table full of glitter n tape n shiny thangs and cookies (all important craft supplies, obvs).

And then...we got down to bidness? The whole thang is wayyyyy easy and fun to do, fer serious.
One word of ADVICE: if you get too ambitious on yer tangram triangle pattern, it starts to feel a lot like math class and it sorta hurts yer head. But if you freeflow it, it pretty much turns out doppppeee.

First attempt! I call it The Ripper, cuz the triangles remind me of YACHT.

Paperclips + electrical tape = approx $2.00 (not even)

Here's Keren modeling it for me.

Next: The Bjorn Borg cuz the neon is like a tennis ball (what?)

Paperclips + electrical tape + the paper label from the electrical tape covered with neon nylon string from the hardware store = I mean, I don't know, $2.50? If that?

Mr Christopher Palazzo; bringer of cookies, weirdness, polar bear hats and exotic animal skins:

 I mean..cmon, so good right?

Protoype for Bootsy Collins-esque weirdo glasses, inspired by Slanties:

Paper labels from electrical tape + electrical tape + nylon string + silver glitter = ??? Fiddy cent? I mean, it's mainly trash cept fer the glittah.

James Ryang: the fantastic photographer of the all the photos in this post and moonlightning sunglasses model:

AWESOME!
YAY for photogenic friends!

How could a Tuesday night be any better?
Keren and I decided we will be doing this weekly, inviting a rotating third party to join in the crafterness.
I hope everyone likes these because this will likely be your Christmas present this year, oopsy.

Stay tuned for next Tuesday when we attempt fashion Snuggies (JK? For us to know, and you to find out)
